ISRO

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the space agency of the Government of India, headquartered in the city of Bengaluru.

It has become one of the six largest space agencies in the world. ISRO contributed in many ways to serve India, World and The Mankind.

History

The Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) was established in the tenure of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1962, Under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), On the recommendation of scientist Vikram Sarabhai (Father of the Indian space program).

Later in the year of 1969 INCOSPAR become or reorganized as ISRO.

Some of the Achievements or records Of ISRO

• Launched 104 satellites with one rocket in 2017 (world record)
• ISRO’s space missions are one of the cheapest in the world.

Launchers of ISRO

Launchers or Launch Vehicles are used to carry spacecraft from earth surface to space.

India has two types of operational launchers: Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV).

Indian spacecraft launched by ISRO

ISRO has launched different types of spacecraft to serve India and world.

Communication Satellites

Communication Satellites are used to support telecommunication, television broadcasting, satellite newsgathering, societal applications, weather forecasting, disaster warning and Search and Rescue operation services.

Earth Observation Satellites

As the name suggests these type of satellites are used to observe the earth. The applications are in the areas of land and water resources; cartography; and ocean & atmosphere.

Scientific Spacecraft

These spacecrafts are used for research in areas like astronomy, astrophysics, planetary and earth sciences, atmospheric sciences and theoretical physics. 

Navigation Satellites

Satellites for navigation services for Civil Aviation requirements and to meet the user requirements of the positioning, navigation and timing based on the independent satellite navigation system. 

Experimental Satellites

These are mainly for experimental purposes, Like Remote Sensing, Atmospheric Studies, Payload Development, Orbit Controls, recovery technology etc..

Small Satellites

Small satellites are Sub 500 kg class satellites, Also used for some experiments.

Student Satellites

These satellites are launched under ISRO’s Student Satellite programme. These satellites are developed by the students of different university and schools.
